Lochaber Site Visit
Extending Asset Life Through Sustainable Service & Maintenance 30-07-2026
This week, Graduate Engineer for Dams, Reservoirs and Hydropower, Euan Kerr, and Graduate SHEQ Advisor, Kyle Johnston, visited our annual maintenance programme at Lochaber, giving them the opportunity to see first-hand the specialist work carried out by our experienced service engineers on critical water infrastructure.
For Euan, the visit provided valuable experience and a deeper understanding of the engineering expertise involved in maintaining Glenfield Invicta's valves. Kyle also carried out a site inspection, supporting our continued commitment to health, safety, environmental standards and quality across our operations.
About the project:
At Glenfield Invicta, sustainability is not only about manufacturing new infrastructure - it is also about protecting, maintaining and extending the life of the assets already in service.
For well over a century, our engineers have supported customers by maintaining Glenfield Invicta valves, helping to maximise operational life, reduce waste and deliver a more sustainable, circular approach to water infrastructure.
A great example of this is our long-standing maintenance programme at Lochaber, where our service engineers recently completed the full servicing and functional testing of a 72" auto self-closing butterfly valve, alongside associated anti-vacuum and air valves.
The works included detailed inspections, cleaning, lubrication, gasket and component replacements, and comprehensive functional testing to ensure the continued reliability and performance of these critical assets.
These valves have been manufactured, maintained, refurbished and, where required, replaced by Glenfield Invicta engineers since 1906. This long-standing knowledge of our own technology provides unrivalled expertise and demonstrates the value of proactive maintenance in extending asset life, reducing resource consumption and minimising environmental impact.
Investing in both our infrastructure and our people is central to Glenfield Invicta’s approach. Through proactive service programmes like Lochaber, we are helping customers achieve their sustainability goals while developing the next generation of engineering professionals and protecting vital water infrastructure for generations to come.
