AVK UK Charity partnerships

At AVK UK, we work in partnership with charity organisations across our region.

Aquabox is a charity which provides safe drinking water, through the use of filtration units, and humanitarian aid to crisis zones around the world. Originally established in 1992 by the Wirksworth Rotary Club, based in Derbyshire.

Whenever a disaster strikes, whether it is natural or man-made, there is always an urgent need to provide safe drinking water for people affected. In the aftermath of a disaster, Water supplies are often severely affected: water pipes may be destroyed, treatment plant may be damaged, or the water supply may be contaminated by sewage or other fouling.

Helping thousands of people in times of crisis.

Since its formation in 1992, Aquabox has distributed more than 110,000 Aquabox Gold humanitarian aid boxes to countries around the world suffering from natural or man-made disasters, helping hundreds of thousands of people in times of crisis.

To provide safe drinking water Aquabox can two solutions, depending on the local need. The first is the Aquabox family filter, capable of filtering water at the rate of one litre per minute, and designed to meet the needs of a typical family group. The second is a community filter – exactly the same technology, but scaled up to process up to six litres per minute, and designed for schools, clinics and community centres.

Celebrating making over Aquabox 125,000 filters.

Both the Aquabox filters are based on sub-micron filter membranes which are impenetrable to bacteria and most viruses, and which instantly produce safe, clean water for drinking, for cooking and for washing. And with a quick, simple daily back-flush process to get rid of accumulated contamination, they go on working – day after day, month after month, year after year.

In these troubled times our thoughts are always with those less fortunate than ourselves, but we try and find good cheer in many ways. The amazing filter assembly team (based in Cromford, Derbyshire) have just celebrated making over 125,000 filters. They have supplied filters to over 50 countries and have converted over 2m litres of contaminated water into safe clean drinking water.
